LG 22MP56 LED Display: Flashes on but then goes black

LG 22MP56 LED Display: Flashes on but then goes black I was recently given the monitor listed in the title. When I plugged it in to a laptop via HDMI to test it, the display flashed on for a fraction of a second(showing my desktop, so I know it can communicate), then went black.
