Songs skip or freeze sometime wont keep playing

Songs skip or freeze sometime wont keep playing
When I try playing songs they freeze, skip or stop playing all together. I reset theiPod also. I want to keep the songs because I no longer have them on iTunes. Is there a way to remove song from the iPod that I want to keep? It happened one time when I pluged the iPod into the updated version of iTunes after that it started malfunctioning. Thank you for you help.
