Why does my screen flicker black periodically?

Why does my screen flicker black periodically? While using my Sony Playstation 3D Display, my screen will periodically (40min-1hr) turn black for a few seconds then come back on. Is this something than can be fixed with settings, or is it a major issue? ANSWERS:
