Typhoon Butchoy was observed some 780 kilometers east of Guian, Eastern Samar. It  is moving west northwest at 20 kph. This is the second storm to hit the Philippines after typhoon "Ambo". It won't make landfall however it would accelerate into a typhoon, strengthening the southwest monsoon over Luzon and Visayas.

"This weekend into Monday is when Guchol is likely to make its closest way to the Philippines and Taiwan. The AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center expects Guchol's center and strongest winds to pass through well offshore, but residents should take extra precautions," senior meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski said in a note.

It will likely be in the Philippines for 4 to 5 days, PAGASA senior weather forecaster Mario Palafox said on Wednesday, with the mass of clouds concentrated over northern Luzon.

"Even though Guchol will pass east of the Philippines, places along the western slopes of the nation's mountains will face the greatest flood and mudslide threat from these downpours," Pydynowski said.

According to PAGASA, estimated amount of rainfall is from 15-25 mm per hour (heavy) within the 300-kilometer diameter of the typhoon.

Benito Ramos, executive director of the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), urged the managers of the local disaster risk reduction to prepare and also consider taking precautionary measures.

NDRRMC urged fishermen in the eastern seaboard never to head out to sea and urged the local government units to prepare for rains and flashfloods.

Typhoon "Butchoy" is expected to reach at 320 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes by Saturday and 310 km northeast of Aparri, Cagayan by Sunday morning.

Typhoon "Butchoy" will exit the country by Tuesday (June 19, 2012) next week, according to PAGASA.

As you can see in the map of the tracking of Typhoon Butchoy, the storm's center(eye) will not hit the Philippines. But do you think it will not bring damage to our country? Tell us in the comments below.
