12th International Youth Day (IYD) Celebration and Youth and Educators Summit for the Millennium Development Goals (YES 4 MDGs)

The United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP) through its youth arm, the United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines (UNYAP) will spearhead the 12th International Youth Day (IYD) Celebration and Youth and Educators Summit for the Millennium Development Goals (YES 4 MDGs) on August 3-7, 2011 at the Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center in Iloilo City.
With the theme, "Volunteering for MDGs: Discover the Volunteer in You!", this activity aims to mobilize the young people to take concrete actions to end proverty by year 2015 as prescribed by the United Nations and the Philippines being signatory to the Millennium Development Goals Campaign. This year's IYD celebration wi11 take a special focus on the role of volunteerism to achieve the MDGs.

The objectives of the conference are to:
  1. provide a venue for the youth leaders and educators in the Philippines and the Asia Pacific region to come together; she and process their experiences; identify their strengths and weaknesses; and enhance leadership skills, techniques and strategies in the pursuit of the UN Millennium Development Goals;
  2. promote solidarity, unity, cooperation and harmony among youth participants towards poverty-free Philippines by 2015 through the United Nations Volunteers campaign of the 10th Year Anniversary of International Year of Volunteers (IYV + 10) commemoration; and
  3. strengthen the youth volunteers programs in the pursuit of MDGs among youth groups like the student councils (SC), sangguniang kabataan (SK) and UNYAP chapters in the regions.
This conference will be participated in by around 400 international and local youth delegates from the Asia Pacific Region and students and teachers in the high school level from the different parts of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The participants include SK Federation Presidents, Student Council Presidents and community youth leaders. International speakers from UNDP, UNESCO, UNV, UNFPA are invited to attend. The culminating activity will be the awarding of UN Outstanding Youth Leaders with His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III as the guest of honor.

The registration fees are Six Thousand Pesos (PhP6,000.00) each for local delegates and $150.00 each for international delegates to defray expenses for food, accommodation, kits and materials. Delegates can register on-line at www.iydcelebration.weebly.com.
