TITLE VI FAMILY CODE OF THE PHILIPPINES – We are now going to know about the fourth chapter of Title VI of the Executive Order No. 209.



The Family Code of the Philippines of 1987 was enacted into law by the 11th President of the Philippines Maria Corazon Cojuangco Aquino.The EO was meant to supplant Book I of the Civil Code which concerns persons and family relations. Work on the said law began in 1979 and was drafted by two successive committees, with the first chaired by Supreme Court Justice Romero, and the second by former Supreme Court Justice J.B.L. Reyes.EO 209 covers fields significant public interest, which also includes the laws on marriage.



 
ContentsChapter 4 Title VI in the Executive Order No. 209 is titled Legitimated Children. Here they are, according to this website:Article 177Only children conceived and born outside of wedlock of parents who, at the time of the conception of the former, were not disqualified by any impediment to marry each other may be legitimated.  (269a)



 
Article 178Legitimation shall take place by a subsequent valid marriage between parents.  The annulment of a voidable marriage shall not affect the legitimation.  (270a)

Article 179Legitimated children shall enjoy the same rights as legitimate children.  (272a)



 
Article 180The effects of legitimation shall retroact to the time of the child’s birth.  (273a)



Article 181The legitimation of children who died before the celebration of the marriage shall benefit their descendants.  (274)



 
Article 182Legitimation may be impugned only by those who are prejudiced in their rights, within five years from the time their cause of action accrues.  (275a)
