"Partition a hard drive often causes data loss and I would advise to stop any further use of the HDD because any read/write operation can overwrite the deleted data. Here are the list of data recovery software which you can choose from.

Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery - free preview of files, real recovery is paid (99 USD)Data Rescue 3 - free preview of files, real recovery is paid (99 USD)FileSalvage free preview of files, real recovery is paid (99 USD)DiskDrill - free preview of files, real recovery is paid (79 USD)Nice To Recover - free preview of files, real recovery is paid (69.95 USD)

Make your choice wisely.

Thanks"

"There are several 3rd party applications that may recover some or all of the data. I have used: DataRescue 3. The great thing about it is that you can try it for free to see what data is able to be ""rescued"". If, after having seen what can actually be rescued, you actually want to save the data, then you can pay for the password that will enable the actual recovery function. I prefer it over TechToolPro 6. Some of these I haven't tried.

If this answer was helpful please remember to mark it accepted."

"Several steps to recover a Dead Hard Disk

1.Inspect the hard drive for damage.

2.Replace the cable. Plug the hard drive in with a new cable that you know works and try again. Note that an IDE drive will need a flat-ribbon cable.

3.If you have a PATA (IDE/EIDE) drive, switch drive pin settings.

If it was “slave” or “cable select,” set it to “master.”

Plug it in alone without any other device on that port and try again.

4.Try other IDs and/or another PCI controller and try again. If you don't have another controller, a PCI card that adds ports to your computer, just change the ID.

5.Plug it into an external drive adapter or external drive case (i.e. USB) if you have one.

If it does not spin up, try pulsing the power to the drive by turning on and off the external power to the drive motor until it does start to spin.

6.Connect the drive into another computer and try again. If this works, it is possible that the motherboard is at fault and not your hard disk.

7.Try to dislodge the actuators.

Power the drive down.

Slap it on a table on one of its side edges. Do this fairly gently – perhaps hard enough to crack an egg. If the fault is the actuators that actually move the head back and forth this might break it free enough to actually become ""unparked"" and hopefully allow you to recover your data once the drive will spin up.

Note that if you do this with the drive spinning, it may destroy the drive."

"It is not impossible for you to recover data from external drive.

Once your external drive can be picked up by your computer, you can use a Data Recovery software to recover the lost files with great ease.

The one I'd love to recommend to you is Hodo Data Recovery software.

It is easy to handle with simple steps: download - connect- scan- recover."

"""I am skeptical if data went to trash. From an external source the data is deleted without going to trash. It is always recommended to backup HDD data before partitioning it as segregating the drive shifts HDD blocks from on to another place. Get a copy of data recovery software. I would recommended either of the below:
