Along what QEII student said, make sure to reformat it. It's also a good idea to just clone your drive from the one already in the MBP, that makes not only the transition easier, but saves you the step of installing Mac OS X. I suggest either Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner, both are excellent (free i believe) tools for cloning drives

Yes, all you need is to completely format it first. I strongly advise that you do full format during the installation process. With this, the system would format and scan the drive for errors.
