Firmware update failed for MacPro 2006 1.1

Firmware update failed for MacPro 2006 1.1

Upgraded my system with 2 Xeon X5365 processors and they just work fine. After that I used the firmware upgrade tool for going from 1,1 to 1,2. That did not work. Any suggesstions why that's the case?

"Your machine won't take it.

Pre-Installed MacOS: X 10.4.9 (8P4037) Maximum MacOS: X 10.7.5*

Mac Pro (8-core) MacPro2,1 MP21.007F.B06 (EFI 1.2) 1.15f3 (SMC 1.1)

Most firmware updates are automatically installed when you update or upgrade OS X. Some firmware updates are also available as downloads you can install manually. If your Mac needs a firmware update and it isn't installed automatically, check to see if a manual updater is listed below.

If you don't see a firmware version listed in this article, it means that either a firmware update is only available as an automatic update, or no firmware update is needed.

"I have used this firmware tool downloaded from netkas - Mac Pro 2006-2007 Firmware Tool page

My problem was that the serial number of my Mac Pro's motherboard was not listed in firmware tool patch.

The one I have added to this post is more updated and works well for my, if this firmware tool neither works for you try looking your motherboard serial number and modifying the patch in order to make it work.

Also you can follow this tutorial in order to update de SMC firmware!

I hope this post can help you!"

Hi, I’ve still not got the firmware upgrade to work. I’ve just picked up a second Mac Pro 1,1 motherboard, which I’m installing today. I’ll try to run the patcher on this one, and report back if it works or not. I wish you could doing this upgrade without having to be connected to the internet.

"I guess it’s also important for the updater that only the original gpu should be present (GT120 if I remember well) and no other cards. Try flashing with the updater a couple of times.

What did you have in the machine when flashing?

Hope this helps."

"Like many others, I get the dreaded error code 5530. Which, by the way, does not show up in Apple’s list of codes.

Some one must know what causes it, and what it means. Anyone care to chime in?

Ron"

"Hi Ron,

I don’t know what that exact error is, but I would assume that the online file it refers to is not available anymore, this might be the cause. A self-contained installer would possibly be the solution here. I have long ago sold my 1,1 and am riding a 5,1 since, so I lost track of these things, but I would say that this might be the cause.

Can anyone else confirm?

Cheers,

Gabriel"
