I would check solder joints at top end of power supply, and or test caps at CM876, CM 881! Caps don't necessarily need to be bulged to prove failed. The result I had was relay clicking about ever 10 seconds power cycling repeatedly no startup. These should be 820uf/25v. I also found a bad cap at at CM872 - 470uf/25v. If you get power on then you should be able to check voltages to main board! If it is staying on insure you have good solder joints on transformers supplying back light power. Poor display with power on most likely main board but if you can get any display first perform full reset then upgrade firmware. With this firmware make sure you follow steps correctly since this firmware upgrade is a two part upgrade.

"Pete, I am having exactly the same problem with my set. It started slowly, at first I got an odd solarized display, then sometimes the TV would shut itself off, restart and in a few minutes start normally. About a month ago, it started taking an hour or more to become “normal” and then it stopped becoming normal altogether. I then turned it off, or actually unplugged it because it would spend all day trying to sort itself out, and as your video shows, sometimes it made a horrible screeching noise on start up, and we couldn’t tolerate that.

Just yesterday, I watched a video by RadioTVNut on YouTube, where he had a similar start up problem with a Samsung of the same vintage, but smaller. But his simply turned on and off and on and off, repeat al coda. His had a bad cap in the power supply.

This motivated me to open it up and try replacing caps, a job I do all the time on vintage electronics. But none of the caps APPEARED bad, and I found my way to your post. I am interested so see that many people feel the problem is on the main board, not the power supply. I already have a partial order open on Digi-Key for caps on some vintage stuff. But now I am thinking I shouldn’t replace the two big caps on the PS, the 150 uf 450 volt caps, which I would assume would be the usual culprits for a PS problem.

I’m sorry to say I have no answer for you. I think now I might replace those two caps for the heck of it, and then look into a software upgrade or a replacement Main board. I will return and tell you if I ever get it running. I hope you will do the same. We have the EXACT same problem."
