What kind of oil do I use?

What kind of oil do I use? I am in need of a oil change and want make sure I get the right kind. Do I use synthetic? Or not?

5w-40 synthetic is recommended by manufacture.. vw oil seals and bearings are engineered to run on syn oil. I use mobile 1 or Total oil personally. Never had engine or turbo replaced 400000 k on it
