WhatsApp takes on Google, Paytm, Amazon and others with this new feature
Last year, WhatsApp added a dedicated payments button in the chat bar. This button allows you to send money to a user within the chat without going to another tab. Now, the Facebook owned platform has also added a UPI QR (quick response) code scanner feature for Indian users. With the new feature, you can directly pay to a store, merchant, or any other user by just scanning the QR code. The scanner allows you to send payments to users who are not in your contact list without typing-in the UPI ID. For those who don’t know, QR code is a square barcode that we scan with our smartphone’s camera to make a payment. Popular payment apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, Amazon Pay and several others already feature a QR code scanner. How to send payments through WhatsApp using QR codeThe QR code scanner is already available for all WhatsApp users on Android and iOS smartphones. You have to keep in mind that the feature will only work for you if you have linked your UPI ID with WhatsApp Payments service. If you want to know how to send a payment through a QR code on WhatsApp, you can follow these steps:Open WhatsApp on your smartphone.Tap on the camera icon or tap on the ‘Scan payment QR code’ button in the Payments section. From the camera, focus on the QR code through which you want to send a payment. You will be able to see a pop-up message ‘UPI ID Found’ along with the name and UPI ID of the user to whose QR code you scanned. If the details are correct, tap on continue.Enter the amount that you would like to pay and tap on pay.Enter your UPI PIN and tap on submit. You can also scan an image of the QR code that is saved in your phone’s gallery. WhatsApp pay was launched in 2018 in India as a part of trail run and after getting approval from National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the service was officially rolled out to the public in 2020. It offers a real-time payment system with over 227 banks and is live for all users across the country.Follow Gadgets Now on  Facebook  and  Twitter.   For the  latest news,   tech news,   breaking news headlines and live updates checkout Gadgetsnow.comGN Awards - Vote for your favourite GadgetsFacebookTwitterLinkedinAdd commentStart a ConversationAll Comments (0)+0/3000Be the first one to comment.{"@context":"http://schema.org","@type":"NewsArticle","inLanguage":"en","mainEntityOfPage":{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://www.gadgetsnow.com/tech-news/whatsapp-takes-on-google-paytm-amazon-and-others-with-this-new-feature/articleshow/89114571.cms","url":"https://www.gadgetsnow.com/tech-news/whatsapp-takes-on-google-paytm-amazon-and-others-with-this-new-feature/articleshow/89114571.cms"},"headline":"WhatsApp takes on Google, Paytm, Amazon and others with this new feature","description":"Last year, WhatsApp added a dedicated payments button in the chat bar.
