2011 International Mathematics Assessments for Schools (IMAS)

The Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG), Philippines will participate in the 2011 International Mathematics Assessments for Schools (IMAS) on December 10, 2011 in all MTG training centers in the country.
The 2011 IMAS aims to:
  1. develop a world class Mathematics assessment with international perspective measuring students’ performances in three (3) cognitive dimensions – Knowing, Applying and Reasoning at Upper Junior Primary (Grades 5 and 6) and Junior Secondary (Grades 7 and 8) levels;
  2. promote effective learning of Mathematics in both elementary and secondary schools through a public recognized performance measuring platform;
  3. serve better the needs of the students through a more user friendly format of perennial assessment that offers options for participants in terms of topics as well as difficulties of materials being assessed through a public Mathematics assessment which will be held once a year; and
  4. usher in an innovative assessment culture, that is participants can choose when they would like to sit for the assessment of content as well as level of difficulties of items being assessed. The participants will take the initiative in assessing one’s competencies and capabilities.
The MTG will give two hundred fifty (250) free slots for Grade 5 or 6 elementary pupils and one hundred fifty (150) free slots for 1st or 2nd year high school students to be distributed among the different public schools in each region in the Philippines. As such, each region is advised to recommend an average of fourteen (14) Mathematics inclined pupils and eight (8) Mathematics promising high school students to participate in the 2011 IMAS.

The list of participants with their school names, grades or year levels currently attended, names and contact number of persons-in-charge should be submitted through e¬mail address: imas.staff@yahoo.com on or before December 3, 2011. The venue of each participant will be provided once the registration form is received.
