National Science Teaching Instrumentation Center (NSTIC) Consultative Conference on the Use of Science Equipment

The Department of Education (DepEd) through the National Science Teaching Instrumentation Center (NSTIC) initiated and implemented the project on the Mass Production and Supply and Delivery of Science Equipment and Consumables to four hundred thirty-five (435) public secondary schools nationwide. The delivery to the recipient schools was completed on May 10, 2011. Thus, the National Consultative Conference on the Use of Science Equipment shall be conducted on September 22-23, 2011 at the DepEd Ecotech Center, Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.
The consultative conference aims to:
  1. review and edit the draft of the manuals and come-up with the final copy of the manual that will be used for the regional roll-out training workshop; and
  2. plan and organize the mechanics of the regional roll-out of the Training Workshop on the Use and Care of the Science Equipment from Year 1 to Year IV.
The participants to this activity are the regional science supervisors (RSSs), two (2) representatives from the Bureau of Secondary Education (BSE) and NSTIC personnel.

The regional directors (RDs) are encouraged to send their RSSs or a representative who has expertise in teaching science subjects and has attended the Training of Trainers (TOT) conducted on June 6-10, 2011 and June 13-17, 2011. Likewise, the Director of BSE is also encouraged to send two (2) representatives who are science specialists.

The payment of the board and lodging of the participants, the travelling expenses of the two (2) representatives and other related expenses shall be charged to NSTIC Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) Fund for Training or Human Resource Training and Development (HRTD) Fund whichever is available, subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations. However, travel expenses and per diem of the RSSs will be charged to local funds also subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations.

The participants are expected to be at the venue during the opening ceremony on Day 1 (September 22, 2011) which will start at 8:30 a.m. The first meal to be served will be dinner of Day 0, and the last meal will be dinner of Day 2.

In this connection, the NSTIC will conduct the training for one (1) science teacher per science subject area (Integrated Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics) per recipient school. The training is very important in order for the science teachers to master on the use of science equipment that they have received and also their utilization and application related to the content and the basic maintenance procedures for the equipment sustainability.

To effectively train the science teachers of the recipient schools, the NSTIC has developed training manuals for the utilization and application as well as basic maintenance procedures to be used during Regional Training by the core of regional trainers to be finally reviewed and edited during the conduct of the consultative conference. The tentative schedule of the regional training will start on the first week of October 2011 until the succeeding dates until completion of the seventeen (17) regions.
