Why won't the cartridge go to the middle?

Why won't the cartridge go to the middle?

My printer is canon pixma MG2940 and the cartridges won't move like when I turn the printer on they are either on the right or the left but when I open the lid they stay in their place and they don't move to the middle. If you can help me please and thank you.
