Gradual loss of lower speeds - now only speed 6 and up work

Gradual loss of lower speeds - now only speed 6 and up work

My kitchenaid 220V when purchased used did not work on stir and speed 1. Eventually over time speed 2, all the way to 8 no longer worked. The machine would sometimes give a half effort to turn and then nothing. My friend took apart the whole machine and put it back together and it magically worked again. He didn't exactly know what he did. He said he just cleaned it up and reassembled it.

"UNPLUG the mixer from electric current!!!

At the back of the mixer there is a hemispherical lid with one screw on top of it. Unscrew it, remove the lid.

behind it there is a black plate with copper or brass flat pieces of metal, that is held by 3 screws.

if you move the speed lever now, the plate should move as well.

At the bottom of this plate there is a single screw. Try to screw or unscrew it a few times, replace the lid and try it on.

When I opened mine, this screw was half way unscrewed and thinking it became lose, I tighten it. Then I lost all speeds upwards of 6-7. I put it back in place (half way there) and the speeds became available again.

Good luck. Be extremely cautious when opening it.

I am not sure if the photos I uploaded here will work, but have a look at kitchenaid au service manual “stand_mixer_service_manual_4177310_9-05.pdf”"
